Real weddings

Penfold supplied the music and dance-offs at Megan & Johnny's rustic, marquee wedding in the Essex countryside, with a sage green and dusty rose theme.

Where did your event take place?

Our wedding took place at my parents' house in a little village called Woodham Walter in Essex. We had our church service at St Michael’s which was beautiful, this is also the same church where my mum and dad tied the knot many years ago!

We then all headed back to the marquee, which was hired through Chelmer Marquees in Chelmsford.

What sort of look/feel/theme did you try to create on the day?

Our wedding theme was a rustic approach, neither of us are in to too much bling! Both our parents were fab in chopping lots of slices of wood for the table centre pieces and for our fabulous cake to sit on. (Our cake was in fact made by Johnny’s (groom) 9 yr old niece and we could not be prouder).

Our colour scheme was sage green and dusty rose which looked beautiful both in the church service and in the marquee! Our florist (Georgia Joy) was amazing and the marquee looked beautiful which was definitely hard to imagine when it arrived as a big blank canvas.

Another little extra which our caterer (Gather and Feast) provided was some sage green water glasses. These really lifted the tables as we had chosen white linen. It was a lovely touch.

Why did you book live music for the day?

We both love to dance and looking at all the videos and photos, it seems our guests did too! We chose a band with a reputation for getting everyone involved and their playlist seemed endless! The dance-off between boys and girls was fab, we all wanted to win! Great idea and everyone loved it.

Penfold were fabulous from start to finish, the dance floor was always full and it was fab to see everyone on their feet singing along! I would highly recommend both the band and their agents to everyone and if we need a band in the future Penfold will be first on our list!

What were your favourite moments of the day?

It’s hard to pick a favourite as it couldn’t have been more magical and perfect. It was just beautiful to watch everyone chatting over dinner, drinking at the bar, and dancing on the dancefloor especially after the couple of years where this has all been so restricted.

Saying that, the biggest highlight was walking up to the church with guests outside holding their order of services, smiling and chatting under their umbrellas. Then walking into the church to see lots more happy (and some teary) faces. And finally reaching Johnny, to marry the man of my dreams!

How did you find Function Central and why did you choose to book with us?

We found Function Central when searching for Essex wedding bands, when we looked at the website it was easy to navigate and search for exactly what we wanted for our wedding day.

What advice would you give other brides/grooms or event organisers?

If you have a vision, go for it!! There’s no right or wrong way when organising such a big event. The main thing is to enjoy every minute.

There will be ups and downs of course. We had a few bumps in the road along the way - we got let down by a supplier last minute, and the bridesmaid's car broke down. But they all got solved and it makes it even more memorable!
