Most of our Yorkshire wedding bands play a broad range of uptempo, melodic rock, indie and soul music that everyone loves, from the Beatles to Bruno Mars.
Smaller guitar-based line-ups tend to focus on rock and indie, whilst larger line-ups including keyboards and brass lean towards soul, funk and Motown.
If pop music isn’t your thing, don't worry – we have acts covering more specialised genres such as swing, ceilidh and latin.
Yorkshire is also the birthplace for Britain's brass band tradition. These days you're more likely to find them paired with a drummer, playing pop songs – it's a refreshing alternative to the classic Yorkshire function band format.
All our Yorkshire wedding bands perform for 2 hours, which can be split into 2 x 1 hour sets, or 3 x 40 minutes sets.
We find 2 hours works best for most events, but many bands will be happy to reduce or extend their performance as required.
We'd recommend putting on the band no earlier than 9pm in summer and no earlier than 8pm in winter. This is because bands are generally better received by guests after dark, when the band's stage lighting will be more effective. Also, guests will have had a break after eating, and will be more in the mood to dance!
Most bands will consider learning one new song that doesn't already appear on their song list. But we'll need to ask the band to approve it first – so let us know in good time.
If it's an unusual song choice or it's difficult to arrange, the band may need to put on the recorded version instead, via an mp3 player.
All our Yorkshire function bands are fully self-contained with their own PA sound system, microphones, backline amplifiers and instruments. This works really well for most marquee or indoor weddings.
Let us know if you're expecting more than 250 guests, so we can check whether the act’s system is large enough.
Most bands will also bring lighting for both the stage and dancefloor.
Once we've received your enquiry, we'll calculate the fee for the band and send you an all-inclusive quote.
Our quote will likely cover the following:
From romantic moors to a stunning coastline, Yorkshire is an incredible setting for a wedding.
Our wedding bands have played in all major centres throughout the county including: Sheffield, Hull, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Halifax, Batley, Dewsbury, Keighley, Castleford, Brighouse, Pudsey, Morley, Pontefract, Shipley and Bingley.
There's no finer place for a craggy, romantic castle wedding fit for Jane Eyre and our bands have played them all, from Allerton and Ripley to Hazlewood and Danby.
Some of our other favourite venues include: Cedar Court Hotel,
East Riddlesden Hall, Wentbridge House, Oakwell Hall,
Kings Croft Hotel and Holdsworth House.
No - all our Yorkshire wedding bands will put on recorded music during their break, to ensure the party never stops. Usually this will be in a similar style to their own, and they'll ensure it's upbeat music to dance to).
Some of our bands can offer a laptop DJ service if required. This means you can put in requests for the interval music ahead of time, and they might even be able to take requests on the night as well.
As a general rule, if you're intending to put on music for more than half an hour after the band have finished, we'd recommend booking a professional DJ in Yorkshire.
Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your party band can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.
If you haven't yet set your date, consider booking a midweek or winter celebration to take advantage of the most competitive rates.
Consider hiring a band based in Yorkshire, to save on travel and accommodation costs. We have acts based in most major towns and cities.
Yes! If you're looking for Yorkshire wedding musicians to accompany your drinks reception or meal, try our jazz bands, acoustic musicians or singers.
It's also worth browsing our soul bands, ceilidh bands and latin & world musicians.
For even more offbeat ideas, see our alternative bands section.
If you're after music for your ceremony, choose from our range of acts to play you down the aisle and back again.
Our harpists or string quartets are a popular choice to make those moments extra special.
It depends on your event date. If you're holding your wedding on a summer Saturday, we recommend starting your search as early as 18 months in advance, to be sure of bagging the best band.
In reality, most of our clients in Yorkshire book their wedding band approximately 9 months in advance, on average.
If you're planning a winter or midweek wedding, you can probably afford to book a band 6 months in advance.
The first thing you need to do is find out the limiter's threshold in decibels. If it's set to a threshold below 95 decibels, let us know immediately, as some bands will struggle to keep within this range. Some bands will be able to substitute live drums for electronic drums, which will bring down the overall level of the band.
If the threshold is in the range of 80-85dB, this may limit your choice of bands to duos or acoustic set-ups.
Most Yorkshire bands can provide recorded music between sets via a device. The device can be yours or theirs and you’re welcome to create your own playlist for this.
Many are able to upgrade to a more advanced service using virtual DJ software so that they can mix songs and take requests – check the band’s profile page for details.
Of course! If you need a little help deciding which band is for you give us a call on 0333 242 0560 or send us a message. We’ll discuss which parts of your day require music and your preferences.
Not necessarily. Our Yorkshire wedding bands will play pre-recorded music during any intervals. This music can be provided by the band, or you can give them a playlist of your own.
Some bands are able to provide their own DJ service for before and/or after the performance but check out their individual profiles to find out more.
There are some circumstances where it might be worth hiring a DJ as well as the band:
In most cases, bands are happy to play in the great outdoors. You will need shelter to protect them and their equipment and access to a power supply to make it happen. Give us a call if you’re unsure if your venue will fit the bill and we’ll be more than happy to advise.
Our Yorkshire brides and grooms tell us why they chose their wedding band and how live music made their evening party. Read more local wedding stories on our blog.
